Start with a specific use case
Open with a problem, product action or result, but make the subject clear. A tool for desk-based creators could show a frustrating task right away. An unrelated spectacle may win attention while forcing the landing page to explain why the viewer saw the ad at all.
Give each version a testable idea
Write what a version tests: portability, fewer steps or a distinctive result. If you compare a problem-led opening with a demo-led one, keep the main message and call to action similar. Changing the offer and ending too makes it hard to know which difference mattered.
Check silent and small-screen viewing
Do not put the key claim only in the voiceover. Make captions readable and keep the product clear of interface overlays. A vertical version needs a composition review, not just cropped sides. Use the actual platform preview to check that essential actions and words remain visible.
What happens after the click?
Separate views, clicks, page reading and signs of intent. Many clicks followed by unrelated questions may mean the opening set the wrong expectation. Avoid declaring a winner from a small sample. Check tracking and audience comparability first, then choose which idea deserves another test.
Put this into practice
- Give each opening one testable idea.
- Check muted playback and each required aspect ratio.
- Review downstream actions as well as views and clicks.
