CREATOR / FIT

A creator brief for crowdfunding: define content and rights

Creator work is more than sending a sample and waiting for a post. Agree on audience fit, test conditions and any future use of the footage. A clear brief reduces surprises while leaving room for the creator to describe an honest experience.

01

Check the content, not just the audience count

Review the subjects, presentation style and questions viewers ask. A technical tool may need a channel willing to show a full workflow rather than broad entertainment exposure. Base the fit on actual material. A large following by itself does not prove that viewers will understand or need the product.

02

Explain the sample’s current state

State which functions work, which remain in development and what safe use requires. Provide instructions and a technical contact without asking for claims the creator has not tested. If a port is not working on the sample, for example, explain that before shipping rather than after it arrives.

03

Agree on deliverables and rights separately

Platform, format, language, timing and review scope are one set of terms. Editing the footage, using it in paid ads, territory and duration are another. Payment or a gifted device does not automatically include every use. Disclosure of the commercial relationship should follow the rules that apply.

04

Track samples, approvals and published links

Record delivery, sample numbers, return plans and contact milestones. Avoid duplicate outreach and approve the actual message before sending. After publication, check the live link against the agreement. Separate completed work from a planned collaboration; an interested contact is not a published endorsement.

05

Put this into practice

  • Review actual content and audience fit.
  • Disclose sample status and test conditions before sending.
  • Agree separately on posts, usage rights and sample handling.
