PRE-LAUNCH & MEDIA / Practical guide

A pre-launch list is worth more than its size.

Look beyond signups to genuine interest for a more useful view of pre-launch performance.

01

Understand why people subscribe.

A signup may reflect product interest, or simply an attractive gift or vague offer. Equal list sizes can conceal different intent. Explain the product's value, current stage and what subscribers will receive.

Before collecting information, clarify privacy notices, intended use and how to unsubscribe. Do not import addresses of unknown origin or assume subscribers to another brand or project consented to this promotion.

02

Keep ads and landing pages aligned.

An ad may promise portability while the page opens with technical architecture, leaving visitors unable to find what attracted them. Review the full journey from click to reading to signup, not just competing ad images.

Test a limited set of hypotheses: perhaps one audience values portability and another operational efficiency. Keep key conditions comparable and record changes. Avoid changing the audience, creative, page and incentive all at once.

03

Keep explaining after signup.

A welcome email can introduce the product and next steps. Later messages can add use cases, demonstrations and development updates. As launch approaches, provide accurate timing, campaign links and reward information. Each message needs a clear purpose.

Match frequency to useful content, user feedback and legal requirements. Do not create urgency with nonexistent limits, false countdowns or unconfirmed delivery dates. Resolving doubts often matters more than repeated reminders.

04

Review cost alongside later behavior.

Cost per signup describes acquisition efficiency, not commercial value on its own. Review later clicks, questions, launch reminders and actual pledges. Privacy protections can affect email-open data, so interpret it cautiously.

If cheap signups produce little follow-on activity, check whether the incentive is distracting from the product. Equally, a few enthusiastic responses do not establish market size. Treat tests as directional evidence, not certain sales forecasts.

05

Launch is more than pressing a button.

Before going live, check campaign pages, email links, asset versions and team schedules for consistency. Third-party publication dates depend on confirmation. Do not present planned partnerships as completed ones.

Pre-launch work can improve communication, test messages and organize timing, but it cannot guarantee first-day funding or platform recommendations. Consider product readiness, delivery plans, budget and feedback together when deciding to launch.
